Toner: Why, When and How! (Video)

In this post, we talk about the importance of toner, when and how to use it.

- What is Toner? -
To put it simply, toner looks like water and acts like water. But it is not water. Think of toner as prep school for your pores: it gives them a head start for what comes next and will help your skin absorb your skincare products. Picture your skin as a dried-up sponge. If you try to put a heavy cream on it, a brittle, dry sponge won’t accept it - it isn’t ‘prepped’ for moisture. But if you wet the sponge, the cream will sink in more easily. That’s exactly why toners are a great addition to your skincare routine.

- How to use a Toner? -
There are so many different ways to use a toner (more than you'd expect)! Any skin types can use any methods, but certain methods of applying toners have better benefits for certain skin types.

One of the most common methods of applying toner is to soak up a cotton pad with it, and wipe it across your skin in an outward motion. This method is particularly good with oily skin types because you are giving it an additional (gentle) exfoliation, and also sweeps up excess oil that might have been missed by the cleanser.

The other popular method is of course by hands. You just have to pour it onto your palm, give it a gentle rub and then pat it into your skin. What this method does is that it provides instant boost of radiance/glow, it also injects moisture almost immediately into your skin. This method is good for people with dry and sensitive skin types.

Another method of applying toner is almost in a sheet mask kind of way. Just like applying to a cotton pad, you apply the toner to a few thin cotton pad. Make sure to soak up your cotton pads with toner, and leave it in areas where you need a bit of help. After 5-10 minutes, take them off and let your skin dry naturally. This method is really good for people with sensitive skin type or people with dry skin at a particular area that needed an extra bit of concentration.

Finally, another method which is popular in Korea and was trending all over the internet is the '7 Skin' method. To find out what it is really about, watch the video below! :)
